9 Things To Do Before You Turn 40

Turning 40 can be a daunting life event for many. It is the age where you sit and think, “oh boy, I’m 40? There are all these things that I wanted to do that I haven’t done yet”. It can even cause a midlife crisis. Now is the time to prevent this! This post will provide many things that you need to complete before you reach the ripe old age of 40. You won’t stay young forever! The older you get, the more difficult these things become. Haven’t you always wanted to say that you’ve travelled the world? You’ve seen Europe, you’ve seen Asia; take a look at the list, some of them you might have even done already!

Tanzania Safari

For as long as we can remember, an African safari has been at the top of our bucket list. Nothing, we suppose, is more humbling than seeing elephants, giraffes, and hippos content in their natural habitat. It’s time to turn this dream into a reality!

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro

Conquering an impossible challenge is one of the best things you can do at this age. Not only is Kilimanjaro a difficult mountain, it is the largest mountain in Africa. The feeling of completion of this task will elate you.

Learn A New Language

Learning a new language is never simple, but it’s really rewarding when you can communicate with someone in another language. You can lead your group when abroad, help everyone understand the menu or simply impress the locals!

Try A Profession In A Different Field

What is your current occupation, and how long have you been doing it? Is it time to make a career change? It’s wonderful to do something new from what you’ve been doing, and it doesn’t have to mean quitting your present career — you can always try volunteer work in a sector you’re interested in or start a side business. It’s all about broadening your horizons and attempting new things.

Run A Marathon

A marathon is a 42.2 km (26.2 mile) long long-distance race that takes a lot of training and hard work to complete. Training for and running a marathon can improve not just your physical strength and endurance, but also your mental stamina, determination, and attitude.

Take Part In A Triathlon

A triathlon is a “multiple-stage competition involving the completion of 3 continuous and sequential endurance disciplines.” Modern-day triathlons are swim/bike/run events that are done in that order. If you think that a marathon is tough, wait till you try a triathlon — the ironman triathlon consists of 3.86 km (2.4 mi) swim, a 180.25 km (112-mi) bicycle ride and a 42.2 km (26.2-mi) run (that’s a marathon-length race!), raced in that order and without a break! But don’t run in the opposite direction just yet — there are many triathlons of varying distances that are completely manageable. For example, a sprint triathlon is 750 m / (0.47 mi) / 20 km (12.4 mi) / 5 km while an Olympic triathlon is 1.5 km (0.93 mi) / 40 km (24.8 mi) / 10 km (6.2 mi).

Take Up A New Sport

Sports are a fantastic way to stay in shape! There is a sport for everyone, whether you choose to be indoors or outside. Here are some activities to try:
-Archery, golf, bowling, billiards, skateboarding, skating, rollerblading, and ice skating are examples of technique sports.
-Squash, badminton, tennis, and table tennis are racket sports.
-Rafting, kayaking, wakeboarding, sailing, swimming, scuba diving, and snorkeling are some of the water sports available.
-Soccer, rugby, baseball, basketball, and ultimate frisbee are examples of group sports.

Go Scuba Diving/Snorkeling

We spend our entire lives on land as humans. Yet there is a whole world beneath the waves that we are unaware of! Do you realize that the ocean covers 71% of the Earth’s surface? And did you know that the ocean holds 300 times the livable volume of terrestrial ecosystems on Earth due to its depth, and that many ocean species are still to be discovered? Scuba diving and snorkeling allow you to get up up and personal with marine life, as well as see, feel, and experience the huge ocean up close and personal.

Go Skiing

Skiing is such a great activity because it allows you to glide across the snow while directing your motor motions. It’s not easy or safe, and beginners should take lessons before attempting to ski on their own, but it’s worth a try, especially for those who don’t live in a winter climate. I’ve never skied before, but I’d like to try it out the next time I’m in the area.
